How to get HDD recognized via USB to SATA bridge to retrieve data?

I have a macbook and a desktop PC with win xp. I want to get data off of the macbook HDD with a USB HDD bridge without formatting and ruining the macbook HDD because I plan on fixing the macbook screen soon, I just need my data. When I plug the drive into the usb on the PC, it shows up as valid working hardware, but does not show up for browsing. It is visible in the device manager. How can I browse the HDD?
