How to get Vista Sidebar services fixed

A friend of mine recently had a virus that I removed without a problem. The only damage that seems to be left behind is a connection problem with the Sidebar Gadgets. Both the weather and stocks gadgets will not connect and say “Service not available”. I did some research and tried everything that was suggested and that I could think of; Checking locations in control panel, replacing wlsrvc.dll with the hacked RC1 version, turning off all start up programs/services(non-Microsoft), and disabling the firewall(only Windows Firewall installed), lastly tried the Microsoft Fixit that repairs the sidebar. Nothing has worked so far. If anyone has any input, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
