how to get win98 to recognize 12g hard d

i have a cybermax 200 pentium with mmx technology. 48 mb of ram. the mother board is a 8500tvx pentium vx system board. when i first recived the computer it had a 4g hard drive. since then my hard drive crashed and i went out and bought a 8g hard drive. i have reformatted both hd’s with the 8g as the master and the 4g as the slave. my computer when it boots up sees the 2 hard drives and sees the 8g as the primary. however win 98 only sees 2g of it. how do i get my computer to see the full 12g? if possible with out having to reformat it again.
