How to recover my OS

My brother gave me his laptop computer and asked me to format c: and install windows xp again. I use the 3 Recovery cds that the laptop brought to reinstall the os .After i inserted the cd #2 it said that it couldnt read from the cd , so i stop the recovery process by restarting the computer .BUT it seems that the cd #1 deleted the OS and now i cant use any cd to recover it because the message “OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND” appeares on the screen . How can i install the OS on that hard disk again if i dont have another laptop so i can make an image ???
