My two year old dv1000 shuts down when starting up in certain situations. It must have been off for a few hours, for one thing. It starts up, reaches the HP screen, and then shuts down. Next try, it might get to the windows load screen, next, it’ll get to windows, and then shut down. After a few tries, however, it works perfectly. It’s just that first start up of the day that takes quite a few tries. The same happens if it’s been in hibernation.
A wild guess on my part would be the fact that I’ve replaced the hard disk; the old one had 4200RPM, while the new one is 7200RPM. As far as I know, this shouldn’t be causing any sort of problem, but I can’t help but wonder if the design of the laptop does not allow for even a tiny increase in the current load. Could the higher RPM hard disk be causing an extra load on the motherboard’s power supply, enough to shut it down?
-I’ve tried to boot up without the battery, and the same happens
-The same also happens when I remove the CD-drive
-The same happens when booting up using only the battery
