HP LaserJet 4V problem on XP pro

I have a problem with a LaserJet 4V printer running on XP pro. Prints Self test, Windows Test Page and text only (no graphic at all) files without any problem. But if the file contents some kind of image then Windows hungs – must be rebooted by restart button, and after restart the printer prints the file automatically (even Windows is not fully ready). The issue comes both with XP built in drivers and the latest from HP web site. Is this a hardware problem or there are some settings must be done? Thanks in advance!
