HP photosmart c309a printing problem

I have a Hp photosmart c309a that prints 3 columns of varying intensity gray bands vertically on the page. This only happens when I copy something. Printing from the computer is perfect. There is also a black zig zag line beside each column. Please give me some assistance as to have to correct this problem.
