Hyperlink problem in Excel

I’m trying to open a .pdf (or other file) using a Hyperlink in Excel 2003.

I’m using the following format:
=HYPERLINK(“\\beryl\techwin\Backup.pdf”, “Antoine”)

If I just point to the directory, Windows Explorer will open and show me the tree structure of the directory. If I specify the file (like the example) I can see a window box that opens and immediately closes and the associated application and or file never appears.

The association for .pdf is set correctly.
