I need exchange help!!!

I have an Exchange server (5.5) and a Proxy server that is connected to a dsl connection to the internet. Everything works beautifully except for this:

I cannot send any email out to the internet. I can receive just fine, but when I try to reply back out, i get a “recipient unknown message” This is my first time making these two work together, but as far as I’ve been able to find, I have done everything right.

we have had the a and mx record changes made on our isp’s dns servers and even with everything open, it won’t send.

Any suggestions?
