I have an Acer laptop that has vista on it (bought in aug) and i have been having this problem for a long time-but could never find out the cause for it.
Whenever microsoft wants to install updates i always have to click postpone because whenever it installs updates my iexplorer doesn’t work. i tried looking up the specific updates to see which ones were causing the problems and just uninstalling those. but that didn’t help either. sometimes i am connected to the internet-but since i live on a college campus i have to log-in in order to get internet service so it says i’m connected..but i’m not (i hope that made sense).
finally i just gave up on trying to figure out the problem after talking to several (the IT support center on campus, the resident technicians, IT major friends, even posted on here before…) and the best advice was to just do a system restore. i did that..and it would work until windows wanted to run updates. so now i can’t leave my computer for very long b/c i am afraid it will run updates that so that i have to do a system restore again.
well last night i closed my laptop and about 10-15 min later it turned on by itself and ran updates. i woke up this morning, did a system restore. iexplorer still didnt’ work. then ran another one. to the very last possible restore point-and it still didn’t work. so now that i’m out of restore points, i’m forced to deal with the problem.
also i can’t install firefox for some reason..i have the program downloaded-but when i open the application it says that it can’t connect to the network (this was before when i didn’t have problems)
if anyone has ideas…i’m open to them! thanks in advance!
