Index Server and SQL 7 specific

I am working on a project for a client in the construction industry, and have a small problem. I need to know if, using SQL Server 7, I can implement index server to do full text indexing on a field in the database containing microsoft word or excel documents. No one seems to know the answer, and I have had one or two people say that it can be done, but no one knows how to do it. Please help, our client is getting antsy!
