Here’s my dilemma:
I have an old P4P800 Deluxe Asus motherboard. Recently it started giving a BSoD and went into an infinite loop with Windows XPSP3. I figured that was my cue to upgrade to Win7 which I did. However, I’m still caught in this infinite loop where it gets to the “Starting Windows” screen, loops back and then does a launch of the repair options screen. So I began troubleshooting. I checked AND replaced the memory, HD cables, hard drive, CMOS battery, power supply, video card, CPU and finally the motherboard (an Asus P4P800 SE, essentially the same board). If you’re paying attention, I built a whole new machine. The only thing that’s the same is the tower. I only connected the HD and video card and it still does this loop.
I researched online and it suggested that it was an issue with the Win7 startup files and I took it through that process as well. No dice.
Here’s where it gets interesting.
If I take that HD and connect it to an old eMachine (don’t laugh) that I have for testing purposes, guess what? It boots right up. So, I have literally replaced every piece of hardware in that machine and it will not boot. I suspect it’s something in the BIOS that may be the issue but after going through that several times, I can’t ascertain what could be causing the issue. I’ve eliminated a software issue since it boots up fine on the eMachine. I thought I had eliminated the hardware issue as well since I built a new machine, even using some parts from the eMachine that I know work in it. So I am officially stumped. Hats off to the one that gets this one.
