Install hardware containing malware inside mouse

Logitech M500s Advanced Corded Mouse

Can a hacker install hardware containing malware inside the mouse, that will infect the system the mouse is connected to?

2.
The laptops antivirus, for example MS Defender, would block and stop the attack?

3.
What kind of skill level would this require?
NSA-level?
Only the manufacturer could do it?
