Installation of Windows / Linux on new HDD

by slnael . Updated 7 years, 3 months ago

My friend recently gave me his old laptop that the HDD had crapped out on him. I purchased a 1TB internal hdd and installed it, then used my other computer, running dual boot windows 10 and linux mint, to live boot a usb to install windows 10 on the laptop. Whenever i go to install it, i always get errors that say something along the lines of missing files. One time it got stuck in a loop where it was mostly installed but had to connect to the internet to download more.

I have tried making a live boot windows 7, 8.1, 10, and even linux mint, the same way i did to make my dual boot, and it always says the same thing.

SPECS

Laptop
Asus S400CA
CPU – Intel Core i7 (3rd Gen) 3537U / 2 GHz
Max Turbo Speed – 3.1 GHz
Dual-Core
Cache – 4 MB
64-bit
6GB Ram
1TB HDD SEAGATE BARRACUDA upgraded from 500GB

I am trying to install onto USB then install on pc. PC doesnt have a CD drive.

I have tried 64bit versions of windows 7, 8.1, and 10, as well as linux mint cinnamon newest build.

I just want to get this laptop up and running for my wife to use. Please help.

** Update

When using Universal Uniboot Installer from pendrive i noticed that it was formating the usb in fat32 and the iso was over 4gb. I installed Windows 10 on the usb as ntfs with no errors.

Now formatting the hdd as ntfs then installing windows.

Will update further.
