Installing SQL Server 7

Hi all,

I’ve read some of the Microsoft blurb on getting the “right”
installation, but I wanted to see what the real world does…

We’ve been cornered a little bit, in that we have already had bought for
us a HP LC 3 PII 350, 512 Mb RAM, 3 x9 Gb internal disks.

What we intend to do is to run a small SQL Server 7 database, and IIS 4
with Index Server. We are then going to install our Help Desk Call
Tracking Application (Help Desk Expert from AIM) on the machine.
Basically when people email in to the Help Desk it will result in a
ticket been added to the database, and likewise people can update these
tickets by querying from the web server.

Our questions are…

1) With 512 Mb of RAM, should we allocate 256 Mb of that to SQL Server ?

2) How big should we make tempdb ??
3) What way should we ‘arrange’ the disks ?
We’ve thought of a few possibilities

Option 1.
OS & Apps on Disk 1
Page File & dumping group on Disk 2
Data on Disk 3

Option 2.
Get a RAID card, and RAID 5 the
