My father asked me if I could fix his bosses computer. My dad?s bosses computer uses Windows ME as its OS. Upon login on the computer it shows a window as if the computer wasn?t shut down properly. After the scan is done it goes to the GUI but it then shuts down with in 3 to 5 seconds. I tried to log on the computer using safe mode and I found the same problem. I tried login on to the computer on regular mode & hitting Ctrl + Alt + Delete with in the short amount of time the computer loads its icons; I delet another program that?s loaded besides explorer, and the computer stays on. Not for long though, It stays but as soon as I start to explorer the drives it shuts down again. I finally gave up and called my dad?s boss and told him what his computer was doing & that if he?d like I could partition his hard drive and reinstall his operating system. He told me that he had done that upon buying a 80 GB hard drive and that?s when his computer started doing this.. I tried to partition his hard drive and installing the OS using DOS prompt.. I had no luck it says that I?m missing a peripheral? I go to the D: drive and try typing Fdisk and even format on the C: drive but am not getting a response.. Could some one help me get this computer back to its original state please.. What do I do to Install windows ME again if I don?t have an OS? all I got is MSDOS prompt.
