internet connection problem

im using an 810e mercury motherbaord, pentium 3 machine. i have bought a new usb modem frm frontech and have installed the required drivers but i cannot connect at all to the internet. whereas the same modem installed in an 815e motherboard, it works properly. please suggest. im using win98se os.
