Is sending & receiving wierd symbols in Outlook 07 sign of virus activity?

I noticed today that my sent and received emails have one word (arn’t) that has a symbol destorting it attached. I will try and duplicate it here; U aren????????t the only . When I run it on the internet it comes out looking like “No” in italics. I am a hardware engineer by trade but lately it seems I do more virus research then anything else. I would appreciate any help on this,thanks.
