java 2 dos memory requirements

hi, does java 2 runtime environment need more than 600 kb of conventional memory under win 95/98? I’m not a developer but I’m a system administrator and I’m asking this because a java program, which launches from the command prompt “pkunzip” to unpack some .zip files, can be compiled and executed under nt/2000 but not under win 95/98.I’ve seen that under the command prompt using mem command the amount of conventional memory is different.is that th problem?Thanks
