Java Training Path

by james.lawless . Updated 23 years, 1 month ago

Hi,
My organisation is currently formulating a training/career development path for Java/eBusiness resources. I have been asked to put together a training matrix.

So this is what I am including and I am wondering if people would suggest I drop/include any other topics?

Background Reading
– OOP
– RDBMS Concepts
– n-tier arch. concepts

Language
– Introductory Java
– Advanced Java

J2EE
– Overview including JNDI, RMI/IIOP etc.
– EJB
– JSP/Servlets
– JMS
– Java & XML (possiblyincluding web services)

Database
– Oracle overview
– PL/SQL

Design
– Common Patterns
– Architectural Approaches

That would seem to be a good start for a developer to go from no java to a productive developer over a two year period, say.(moving onto java projects whilst going on above courses periodically).

Where would one go from there? e.g. I consider myself an intermediate level developer with some architecture know-how, I would be pretty familiar with all above so if I was to put together the next level of career development, analyst or technical architect say, what should I be looking at next?

Any suggestions on above course outline or other query appreciated,

Thanks,

James
