Joining two networks

by corky132 . Updated 25 years, 10 months ago

Here’s the setup. Two networks joined by a public WAN. Router at both ends. Network 1 has no proxy server, network 2 has an MS Proxy server (using only one public IP address).

There is a database program (frontend program, with an access 97 backend) that we need to share on both networks. I’ve tried to join network 2 (with the proxy) to network 1. The proxy server can see (ping) the other network, but it cannot join the domain (as a backup domain controller). (The program must have mapped drives to it’s data)

So my question is, can you join to networks (as BDC and PCD) over a WAN (not the internet)? If so, how.. if not, how can I accomplish this task. We’ve got a VPN box setup already, but would really rather not use it for this.if we use VPN, and VPN the proxy server on network 2 to connect to network 1, and map drives, can the users of network 2 see the drives?

Thanks in advance.
