Keeping profile when changing domains?

Our company is migrating some users to a new domain. Doing nothing, the users lose all of their personalizations. Moving only the desktop does not let them keep application preferences. Some computers will allow me to move the entire profile and keep all the original settings, but others won’t. Is there a specific procedure that will allow me to keep my users happy by keeping all their preferences?
