LapLink Ver 7.5b Locks Up PC

by lrclifford . Updated 25 years, 9 months ago

I received a Dell Dimension XPS T700r w/ latest BIOS. Software is Win 98 2ed Ed & IE 5. The video card is a 32MB NVIDIA geFORCE Graphics card & the monitor is a Dell (Sony) 19″ Trinitron. The display area setting is 1280 X 1024.

I also received aDell Dimension XPS R350. Software is Win 98 First Edition, IE 4 (or 4.01). The video card is a 4 MB STB nVIDIA Graphics card and the monitor is a Dell (Sony) 17″ Trinitron. The display area setting is 1024 X 768.

I am using LapLink version 7.5b (32-bit). I use it only for file transfer between two PC’s using the parallel port cable. When I start the program on the “R350” PC, or any other PC, it works as specified. When I start it on the “T700r”, the program immediately locks up and the monitor goes completely black. There are no messages. I must power off and then on to restart Windows 98. Alt-Ctrl-Del does nothing. Of course, ScanDisk is executed for drive C:.

I would like to know why this happens and what to do about it.
