Linking to Wordperfect & Word documents

I need to put some documents on our Intranet that are in both Word & WordPerfect formats so users can open the documents in the word processor of their choice. How do I link to these documents since the only links to html format documents. I do not want to save the Word/WP docs as web documents. I need to keep them in their original formats.
