Long Office File Names on Novell 4.11

We’ve experienced off and on problems with people saving Office files over 8 characters to Novell Servers. It seems that the files can be saved initially with no problems, but once they are opened, edited and saved again the file gets corrupted andand the Office program doesn’t recognize the file type and is unable to open the file. HELP!!
