Losing icons in Favourites

After importing/saving certain favourites, I am losing the custom icons that normally accompany a great majority of the sites bookmarked. This occurs after a few days, when these icons are then replaced by the generic IE icon, and the custom version is no where to be found. Why is this happening? Thanks everyone in advance for your help.
