Mac Freeze on PPP Termination

While waiting for PPP termination after
disconnect from Remote Access, my iMac
with OS9 will freeze, crashes and I will
have to do a restart from the side button.
this will happen about one time out of five
disconnects. I use Outlook Express 5.0
and Internet Explorer 5.0.

Any suggestions to fix this issue?
