Flash animation, especially those animated banner ads, make Firefox run sloooooow, even on a fast PC.
The Flashblock add-on gives you the choice of watching these or not. Flashblock, by default, does not load the flash object on the page, and gives it a button.
Wanna see it? then click the button. Heavy flash sites like cnn.com will load about twice as fast. This works better than having an ad-blocking hosts file, which I also have.
PDF file hell…..that agonizing twenty or thirty seconds while the Acrobat plug-in renders a PDF file in Firefox, pegging the processor utilization and even causing Firefox to go to ‘not responding’.
The add-on called “PDF download” lets you choose to download the PDF (obviously) with a choice dialog box that pops up. It can also render it in HTML (which will be fast but look horrible).
These two add-ons make surfing a lot more productive, especially on my ancient 1GHZ laptop.
