I am a person involved in IT for over 25 years now and have a good deal of knowledge on many facets of the computing world though I stay away from web work or software development.
Providing a lot of personal PC support to users here in my town I have to fight the malware problem pretty much daily. Every six months or so I purposely look at the reviews on anti-virus and other anti-spyware products and download and test some of these. A lot of the popular products I am familiar with and most are garbage. And I suppose I have proven beyond my own doubts what works and what sort-of-works. Interesting thing is my findings don’t match the reviews I read. So this question is direscted at finding what I would deem an honest answer. I feel a lot of the reviews are untrue or biased as the popular web site giving such must be getting kick-backs as I know certain products are problematic in their efficientcy at protection or are resource hogs etc….. and the preferred product I like is down in the ratings or not compatible with certain major protection softwares.
Has anyone out there done the research and their own testing and have results that seem to work for them? Its a constant battle or war with malware threats and products may succees for awhile then falter. I am looking for something that is dependable and works. I also believe what other ‘true’ IT specific people already have realized – it takes usuallu ‘more than one’ installed software product to come close to a fully protected state on a computer. And this I do – I run two products and I am successful with these two. These two are not in the upper ten with the Norton and the McAffees that don’t work in my book.
So what or which are the softwares that work, that don’t bloat on resources and have been preoven over at least a year that they do work? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ahead of time !!!
