Merged Date Field in word in American

Hi All

Hope someone out there has the answer to this problem

I have an Excel Spreadsheet which is merging with Word (Both office 2003). When I merge the fields the dates convert to American Format

i.e. 23rd Nov 2005 as 11/23/2005

I have checked the settings in Windows and they are English UK
I have formatted the cells in Excell to dd/mm/yyy. But the dates still keep coming throug as American.

Please help as the hair is getting very thin!!!
