Microsoft VPN RRAS Problem

by smicale . Updated 25 years, 7 months ago

I have setup MS RRAS and I have everything working fine, except for when my
clients disconnect from the VPN, the IP address the DHCP server hands out to
them thinks they are still connected with that IP address. That same server
is also running with WINS and is a Primary DNS server. If I ping the
machine by name, it brings back a 192.168.1.110 and then gives me a request
times out. The real IP should be 192.168.1.101. If I ping that address
then I get a reply back and everyone on the network can ping that address
also.

The clients machine is on our network, but I was using this as a test to see
how the VPN worked. I disconnected the machine from my network and used the
modem to dial into my ISP and then from there I dialedinto my VPN. Then
when I disconnect that is when I have the problem when I plug my client back
into the network.

I tried stopping and restarting my WINS service. I even went as far as
stopping DNS and DHCP. On the client I tried releasing my IP from my NIC
and renewing it. That didn’t work either.

Anyone have any ideas? I did download and install the new Routing and
Remote Access Service from MS.

Let me give my configuration so that someone can maybe understand this better.
My Server:
IP is 192.168.1.2
Subnet mask 255.255.0.0
It is a Wins Server
It is a DNS server
It is a DHCP Server
Scope 192.168.1.100-192.168.1.199

Client:
IP when connected to Network 192.168.1.101 – it gets that from the DHCP server.
Subnet Mask 255.255.0.0
When disconnected from the network, IP can be any address in the pool.

Any help would be appreciated!
