Missing prefetch folder

Hi all.
My laptop (XP Home) became really slow in booting. I’ve read something about .pf files, so I tried to look at the c:\Windows\Prefetch folder. Surprise: the prefetch folder does not exists, neither any *.pf files. Anyone knows why an how to fix it?
Thanks in advance.
