Missing Share Names

I have two W2K servers running standalone. When mapping an NTFS share from any of these servers onto an XP machine, the share name is blank when viewing the properties of the mapped drive. And for some reason, FAT shares on the same W2k servers (external USB drives) display fine. We have an application that requires the mapped drive to have a name. Any help appreciated! Thanks.
