Moving from Activex to JAVA

We have developed an activex control to web enable the visio drawing by reading a windows meta file and functionality such as reading metafile and searching for a text in it.We want to develop a similar kind of application in java as we don’t want activex control.
How to proceed
Any suggestions are welcome.
