I’ve been thinking that I’m having to shut down XP twice every time recently. But not sure it’s not just my impatience.
But I got the clearest demo of something wrong yet when I booted up this morning. Download Manager upgraded itself last night and waited for the next bootup to complete the upgrade.
Well this morning it gave me the information that the upgrade was successful, immediately after bootup.
I clicked okay and the splash screen went away.
And then came back and I had to click okay again!
It’s like my OS is running twice. Gives me a feeling like maybe the OS is running and every action is being copied, so it looks like it is running twice.
Like a spyware thing. Well I know I’ve got a spyware thing. I put it there. Keylogger. But it’s for my protection on my machine and it didn’t used to cause this sort of thing and I don’t see that it should. It only writes to a log file on the hard drive.
The kind of spyware I’m suspecting would write to the internet and i guess there’s a slim possibility there that it could somehow cause this kind of behaviour. That’s a wild guess. I’m damned if I can actually see how it’d do it.
there was another thread about the same problem but that was back in ’05 and he never got it solved and didn’t stay with it beyond four posts so I thought I’d start a new thread.
Anyone experienced anything like this?
Got any ideas what could be happening?
How I could trouble shoot it?
regards,
ab 🙂
p.s. start things twice – yes, I seem to have to double click firefox twice before it actually springs into action. Once it is up I can start new windows, etc., with just one click, but first time round it needs to be told twice.
