naming, copying & deleting [xp pro sp2]

since putting [xp pro] sp2 on my ibm T40 laptop, i’m unable to name/rename, copy or delete FOLDERS [xp pro sp2] but no problem with FILES; i ran adaware and found 55 critical objects, but i still can’t do these functions; after ibm shoved me off to MS, MS suggested trying a new user to see if that made a difference [it did NOT], but now i can’t login on my original user name, so i can’t access the updates, modifications, etc., either.
no other techies have been able to get anywhere, let alone heard of this problem.
any sugggestions??
