No matter what I try, I cannot get public access printers to work in NW
5.1 (SP1 installed). I’m able to create the printers without a problem
in the NDPS manager, but whenever I attempt automatic print driver
downloads on either Windows 9x clients (NW client software version 3.21)
or on Windows NT v4.0 (NW client software version 4.71) I receive the
Novell message upon login:
—- Printer \\[Public]\pa_hp5l: Not currently available (PRINTER –
NDPSM IS NOT LOADED)
—- Printer \\[Public]\pa_hp5l: Not installed
I’ve searched the Knowledgebase and can’t find any reference to the
error. Of course, NDPSM.NLM is loaded on the server — I see my public
access printer in the manager with the IDLE status.
If I attempt to add the public access printer manually (via the Windows
Printer applet) I can successfully browse to the public access NDPS
printer, select it and install drivers, however, the printer does not
have a printer port attached to it and therefore fails to print!
