Network in haritage

I just inharited a network with 1 server and 9 workstations. Everything is in such a mess there, users flooded me with compliants. But before I never administrated a network with more than 4 PC. Did anybody have a similar experience? Where to start,how to get all things setteled down? I would really appreciate if somebody has ready technics or can direct me to the links. I bet there are some articles on TechRepublic, but honestly, just don’t have time to browse. Please help.
