Networking – Parallel cable connection

by bootsys . Updated 25 years, 7 months ago

I have a desktop compaq and a toshiba laptop. I was running Win98 on both machines and tried to connect the 2 using a parallel cable and Windows Direct Cable connection. I setup a password. When I Listen on the Host Compaq, to the Guest Toshiba, a password request comes, I enter, it gets verified & accepted but the following message comes up, “Direct cable connection was unable to display the shared folders of the host computer. To see the shared folders, type the name of the host computer.” I dont know what the name of the host computer is, drive C: is “jane”, I have tried this name but it says “host computer not found”. I have shared the folder “My briefcase” and unchecked the read-only mark allowing full access. Where am I going wrong. In fact I have also upgraded to Win Me but its still giving the same message. Any offers would be most appreciated. Thank you, Wellaz.
