NIC Card Problem

I am trying to access the network with my laptop. I believe that everything is set up properly. I have several messages in event viewer that I believe is the root of the problem. “Unable to create the symbolic link for COM1”; “User configuration data for parameter COM2 overiding firmware configuration data”; “User configuration data for parameter COM1 overiding firmware configuration data”; “The Control Registers for COM1 overlaps with the COM1 control registers”; “User configuration for parameter device must have port address”.
Can any of these messages be the cause of the problem. If so how do I correct them.
