I have a couple of Dell laptops (D800) that are giving me network problems. I am able to joing the domain, connect to the network and do everything anybody else can. I can ping the DNS server – Gateway – any other computer. I am running Windows XP SP2 with all current patches. Firewall turned on. I use Veritas Backup Exec for Windows and the beremote agent is installed on the my computer for backup. I have the agent listed as an exception on the firewall. This works 99% of the times. On 2 laptops it doesn’t work. Even if I turn off the firewall I cannot ping these laptops. It appears that the firewall is still on (even so I should be able to access the backup agent). I have reloaded the intergrated network adapter driver from Dell and ran a repair with the Windows XP SP2 disk. This happened once before on a D800 laptop (Dell was no help in fixing this) and I ended up wiping out the hard drive and reinstalling the operating system. That did fix the problem. In that particular case I had an extra laptop available to do it. I cannot inconvience the users this time. Anybody had this problem?
