Nt Workstation

We are using the serial numbers of the computers as the computer name(eg:19012605).The problem I am having is that the name changes to all zero(eg:00000000), the SID is also lost. The only way to get it up and running again is to enter the computer name and run GHOSTWALKER. Could you shed some light on why this is happening
