I have recently started with a company and things are a little weird here: some users are on a on-premise Linux mail server and use POP, some are on a third party POP server, some are on a third party hosted exchange and some are using Office 365 E1.
I am having lots of issues with Office 365 in that I cannot configure it on new computers when the primary DNS server is my local domain server mycompanydc.com. If I use google dns 8.8.8.8 I can or if I use my ISPs public DNS I can.
Can I configure my local DNS server to point to Office 365 servers? How do I go about it? I have tried creating an MX record in the forward lookup zone but get a an error a record cannot be created a name is invalid. I have found DNS details in my admin console for Office 365
I am using Server 2003 as a DNS/DC/DHCP server (sad face) till next year.
