Open external document using VBA

I have an MS Access database that allows users to link to a document and store the path in a table. I now want to allow the to open the document by pressing a button on the form. I have got the open file dialogue box being displayed but need to know how to get access to open the document selected (not the application as the link is to the doc not the app).
