Optimum Online Setting

Hi
My boss needs me to setup her Mac Laptop for optimum cable connection for internet. I never used Mac computer. So I don’t know even how will be the network neighbourhood settings and where would I find that also which protocol to support that. Please guide me. Detail info would be highly appreciaed.
