Partition died!

by mizhaber . Updated 25 years, 9 months ago

I just bought a new 20GB Seagate Medalist hd. I partitioned it in to 3 partitions, 1 gig for system, 19 gigs for data and 0.3 gig for swap file. My previous hd’s had bad sectors so I moved all my data to the new hard drive. After moving, everything was fine, I could use the files and so. I shutted down the computer. Next morning when I powered it up, the 19 gig partition was gone! When tried to access, it tells me that it is not formatted. Win98 Fdisk tells it is in UNKNOWN fs. Linux fdisk shows that it is in fat32, but it cannot be mounted. Partition magic tells me that it is empty, and in unknown format, but when I click to partition info, it shows it as a fat32.

HOW could this happen by only rebooting the machine?

Is there ANY way to recover my data (including my c-sources from last 3 years… I must be total IDIOT to not have a backup anywhere!!! 🙁 …) ???

Is there any proggies to help me recover those files? (Norton Utilities UnErase nor MS Undelete(DOS/WIN) cannot even access the drive..
