I run windows 2000 AD and had 2 servers: one setup as the Master and the other just a DC. Yesterday the Master died and wont come back up. Went to the properties page on the surviving DC to try to change the role to make the surviving DC the master so my users can be able to log on, but there is a kind of message there (just where the change button is) saying that the change of role should (or maybe will) not be done while the master is unavailable (my understanding had always been that once there is a kind of Backup DC, it will kick inand continue to service request if the master was unavailable). I was actually planning to retire the dead server in a few days,so Iam not that bothered about resuscitating it. My only worry now is how to get my users logging onto the network and carrying onwith their work. At the moment all network activities have halted due to the absence of this PDC Master. Your advice on this matter is appreciated.
