Personalised Settings

I run a school network (NT4 SP5) and have students (mandatory profiles) who log on and off at irregular intervals. They are usually only logged on for short times (40 minute periods).
My problem is that each time they log on, the system insists onupdating their personal settings which takes up a fair amount of time.
I am now installing Front Page 2000 on a number of the machines and it makes the problem worse.
Anyone know how can I disable this apparently useless function?
