Position as The Chief Operating Officer

As a part of my career objective I have been wondering for last few months as to where should I target my ambition or what is my ambition? Am I in the right Direction to achieve the same? So in retrospect I pondered over my past 7 years of professional experience where I was succesful in doing things differently in the interest of the organizations that i worked for. I think I want to pursue few things which would help me in becoming a Chief Operating Officer (COO) in an IT company. I understand that a COO is hired by the Board of Directors, reports to the President or Executive Committee, and is responsible for carrying out the Board’s policies. The COO will be held accountable for all areas in the organization and will ensure the synergism of all activities within the same. He becomes the Board’s bridge to the staff and committees and enables a Board to avoid the intricacies and short-term focus that is the staff’s responsibility. This will allow the Board to work more exclusively on the holistic and long-term focus of Organization Governance. He will prepare such special reports as may be requested by the Board and will report back on the effectiveness of the organization’s policies, operations and new programs. Having said that if my activities in a Particular region have been instrumental in all of the above concerns for my current employer but still I have only the Middle-management position. I would like your suggestion on the above so that I can carry my ambition foraccomplishment further towards this Goal of being a COO. I have worked with two start-ups earlier, before I joined this new start-up and also had been instrumental & Key Player in making a start-up successful by giving my management consultancy skill expertise to form a successful company and made them achieve success in all the above inspite of me being a non-management graduate from a reputed B-school to boast off.
