Preblems with Office 2003 after booting an XP Pro system

I recently had to re-install my system. After installing Office 2003 Professional, I started getting messages immediately after getting to the desktop after a fresh boot along the lines of “Powerpoint has encountered a problem and needs to close……”. After I click on “Don’t Send”, another message comes up offering to start Powerpoint in “Safe mode”. I haven’t at this stage started any Office programs. I ran the repair option that is available but this did not fix this issue. Can some one offer a cure/work around to solve this problem or this another occasion when a fresh install is the only cure?
